HISTORY of Hahndorf and The German Village Shop

Hahndorf is the oldest surviving German settlement in Australia. German settlers moved into the area in 1839. Many of the founding families still live in Hahndorf today. This photograph is taken in 1881 of the main street in Hahndorf.

The German Village Shop is located in the center of Hahndorf has been operating since 1989. It is located in a historic stone building that was built in 1866 and has been used over the years for a variety of different businesses, including a stone masonry.
